Our keynote speakers are Maryland State Senator Jim Rosapepe and his wife Ms. Sheilah Kast. Senator Rosapepe is a public servant who has worked at the international, national, and state levels for over twenty years and currently serves as Maryland State Senator for the 21st District. For eleven years, Jim Rosapepe served in the Maryland House of Delegates representing College Park. In 1997, President Clinton asked him to join his administration as U.S. Ambassador to Romania. In 2001, Governor Glendening appointed him to a five-year term on the Board of Regents of the University System of Maryland. Ms. Sheilah Kast is well known as a reporter and anchor to viewers of Public TV, ABC News and CNN. A skilled interviewer, she hosts Inside E Street, produced by AARP, as well as her own daily public-affairs show on the public-radio affiliate in Maryland. Ms. Kast’s reporting for ABC News ranged from the White House to Congress to the historic 1991 coup attempt in Moscow, signaling the end of the Soviet Empire. Her husband, Jim Rosapepe, joined her on some of her overseas assignments in the Soviet Union, including the Republic of Georgia civil war (Dec 1991). After Jim was named U.S. ambassador to Romania, Sheilah joined him there where she had unparalleled access to Romanians in all walks of life. Senator Rosapepe and Ms. Kast are nearing the completion of a book on their experiences not only in terms of his ambassadorial functions but also the language implications involved for both of them.
At 5:30 p.m., a reception with snacks and a cash bar will start off the program. During this time a silent auction will be held featuring items donated by our generous area merchants and NML Board Members and friends. There will be entry forms for the door prize drawing. Buffet Dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m., followed by the keynote address. A special tribute will also be made to the late Dr. Dora F. Kennedy, NML Associate, and one of the founders of the NML.
Entree Choices: 1) Baked Chicken with Fine Herbs 2) Herb-Crusted Salmon 3) Vegetarian Lasagna Entrees will be served with tossed green salad, baked potatoes, vegetable medley, rolls, and coffee, tea or ice tea & chocolate mousse for dessert.
